How to track visitors on your Netvibes Universe

Hi,

If you want to know How many Visitors came to to visit your Universe, Where they came from, How long they stayied well you need to use a tracker.

The solution came from a post by jnuk on his AcideWeb a French Blog:

Go to Google Analytics and sign in for the service (you need a Gmail email) . Google Analytics is free to all advertisers, publishers, and site owners and YES with your Universe on Netvibes you are a site owner!

Follow the simple instructions, copy/paste the tracker in the ADD CONTENT/ESSENTIAL WIDEGTES/HTML widget. Google Analytics offers you 2 trackers, I choose the ga.js (do not ask why, I do not know, but it works ;) ).

In the instructions, Google suggested to put the tracker before the CLOSE BODY tag or paste the code segment into the bottom of your content, immediately before the tag of each page you are planning to track.
I put the The HTML model in my first TAB of my Public Universe but I think it could work any where... (to be confirmed).

Wait at least 24h before checking the results...

We need more data from experts on this but it is a start...

new: 19 Mirror URL for Netvibes: nv1, nv2, ...nv19

Hi,

looking for my logs on this blog, I discovered a set of 19 MirrorURL for NETVIBES:

http://nv1.netvibes.com,
http://nv2.netvibes.com,
http://nv3.netvibes.com,
...
http://nv19.netvibes.com,


All those URLs open and give the same service than the "normal" one:

http://www.netvibes.com

But you need to log in in every version (with your email and password) even if you are logged in with "normal" Netvibes

Those are probably test URLs, like a Netvibes Version 1,

Reading from the cookies they leave, as I had just logged in for the first time with the NV urls, the active users ID and the user ID are the same and of course growing (we have reached the 9.600.000s).
In this case, 1 active user (me) with the same content, 1 email and 1 password has increased by 19 units the User Counter!

By looking for it on Googles, I found that NV1 started working in August 2006.

I managed to work with different NV Urls opened and to have the data correctly reported on my WWW Url.

I would remain with the "normal URL" as I do not feel that the NV open faster. I would check later but for the moment the NV seem a little bit slower but perhaps it depends from cached data.

Check your own Netvibes Active User ID number

In the comments of my post concerning the 7 million users claimed by Netvibes,
Webmonkian said...
if you clear your cookies and go to netvibes and then look at your cookies you can see how many 'users' netvibes has.

So I did it! (Thanks Webmonkian!)

I looked for my "netvibes" cookie , I read it with Notepad and I saw the
userID that seems to be to Total Registred Users of Netvibes. This number went up and down 7.000.000 (ex: 7.041.021 or 7.927.351) and is in line with the 7 mln users claimed by Chappaz in my other post.

But I saw also the activeuserID, a number that did not change even by changing PC and erasing the cookies. It is my own user ID and this Active user ID is in the 3.700.000 range probably related with my registration in mid November 2006.


Questions:
1) why the userID changes so much (900.000 in a few hours) ?
2) are the activeUserID related to date of registration or to another event?

Netvibes has 7 Milion users says Chappaz (co-CEO)

In a statement made by Pierre Chappaz, co CEO at Netvibes, during the Web2 summit in San Fransisco - Netvibes say they are going to integrate the use of Google gadgets, of which there are 1,531 (although it can be discussed as to whether or not some of these qualify as widgets & not just RSS feeds) but also that Netvibes has over 7 million users, up 2 million since september. Half of those using Netvibes are in the USA.
Numbers are confirmed in the French Blog of Pierre Chappaz.

In a new post in his Blog, Chappaz talks of "nearly 10 millions users" and refers as a source to... Alexa. As I already posted, Alexa data seem ridiculously inaccurate ...

in my previous post I referred to the 5.000.000 "users" claimed by Netvibes.

There are many voices even in the competion to ask for much clearer definition of "user".

In the same post of Mashable: in comment N°2; Christoph Janz from competitor Pageflakes.com
was asking: "What’s the definition of a “user” in that context? A registered user? Someone who came to the site once? An active user who spends at least one hour on the site per week? A user who visits the site daily? Obviously, this makes a HUGE difference (easily by a factor of 100 or more). "

I would assume that in Netvibers case "a user" is "just" a registred user: someone having typed in "email address" and having chosen a password. The email is not necessary a working one as no authorization code is sent to it...

So, Netvibes in little more than a year time has succeded in having 5.000.000 users...

How many are using it every day ?
Only their servers could tell us or Tariq KRIM himself.

In Gigaom of last September we found that :

1. "KRIM says his company now has five million active users and growing fast".
2. " half the users are from the U.S., and are amongst Netvibes’ most demanding (in terms of using features and bandwidth) users"

But in an interview with the IHT in August 2006, Krim is reported declaring: " more than five million users have now signed up to use it" and also that: "10 percent of users (of) the site remains active all day long"

FROM THAT WE HAVE:
