I want to tag, search and store my Share/Star It activities in Netvibes

It is a few monthes that the Ginger release of Netvibes is out and one of the features that I prefer is the Share/Star of My Activities.

I use it to bookmark pages, ideas, blogs, urls that I want to keep for a later use and/or reading. I use it a lot: at least 4-5 times a day.

I like it because I can also choose to publish it with a comment to all "my friends" or just to keep it for me (private).
I like it also because with FireFox I can use the Star button in my browser or the bookmarklets if the add-on is not installed and also the Star it button if placed by websites.
I like it because I can see and read what my friends shared and starred.

But, I have a big problem: as I have now a lot of them and all this Shared/Starred activities are just visible in my Activities by clicking on Activities in the upper menu.

They are presented in a the "most recent first" order and there is a search button.
The search is based on all Activities (mines + friends) and on words. Then the results are presented just with this little black window.

The My Comunity widget is ok but presents only the last 25 activities... and there is no search

I want more !

With my Share/Star it Activities I would like to be able to:

  • separate Shared Url from other activities (as shared widget)
  • separate my activities from others
  • have the possibility to store the share urls with folders or tags or...
  • be able to rate (1 to 5) the activity
  • to move and rename and delete some of the urls shared
  • search by date and tag
  • to save , backup and export/import
I hope I am not the only one in this situation and to not send me to http://del.icio.us/ ;)

So, if you are a developer you should start reading this (Netvibes Developers Forum)

I need a Netvibes' activity badge to put on my weblog or my website

I just added a couple of icon at the end of each post to let you "Bookmark it" with the service you prefer... There is one service missing: Netvibes :(

So, I need a Netvibes' activity ("save this link in Netvibes") badge to put it near the others.

The little yellow star that I have in my FireFox toolbar with the add2netvibes extension is doing the same job but I want to offer (and all other websites could do the same) the same service to Internet Explorer and other browsers users.

I tried to add the code of the "Share Url bookmarklet" but Blogger does not like it :(

Can someone find a solution ? Thanks in advance.

2 new bookmarklet for your Netvibes: Share url and Update Status 4*/5

If you are a FireFox user and have a Netvibes page, there 2 new bookmarklets for you.

A bookmarklet is a small application that is stored in your own browser (here FireFox) as a bookmark.

A French (?) developer GIZMHAIL has just finished them and they are still warm...

1) "Netvibes activity post bookmarklet" : simply allows you to update your status, without being in your Netvibes page.
If you click on it in your browser bookmark bar (no matter what page you're on), you'll be asked to write your message (ie. your new Netvibes activities status), and it will be pushed to your public activities.
An useful feature is that the text you'll have to write will be filled by default by the text currently selected in your browser, if any.

This Bookmarklet, that in my own browser I have renamed as: Netvibes2 Update Status, is useful if you do not want to go back to your netvibes page to change your status.

2) "Netvibes activity favorite bookmarklet":
If you fall upon an interesting page (but not necessarily found through your Netvibes feeds
), simply click on your bookmarklet in your browser bookmark bar to share the url where you currently are. You will have the opportunity to add a comment"

This one is also a useful bookmarklet, that I renamed Netvibes2 Share Url.

But :( in my browser, this bookmarklet is duplicating the STAR button on the new Netvibes ADD2NETVIBES extension for FF ( http://eco.netvibes.com/extensions/fire … -0.8.0.xpi )
The only advantage for this bookmarklet is that if you have selected some text on the page you want to share, this same text will be the comment of your starring. I like it for that .

NetEx Rating: 4*/5 for an easy and user friendly application .
I hope that in the future they can be integrated in the Add2Netvibes extension !

TO INSTALL :

Simply drag (click left) and drop the following links up in your FireFox bookmark bar

Netvibes activity post bookmarklet - By Gizmhail Update Status

Netvibes activity favorite bookmarklet - By Gizmhail Share Url

The bookmarklets are ready for use ! (you need to have logged in on your Netvibes during the session of course to make them work).
You can also rename them.

I tested the new Netvibes FireFox extension: star and add feeds in 1 click: 5*/5

I just installed the new Netvibes Firefox extension Add2Netvibes v0.8.0: (works from Firefox 1.5 to Firefox 3)

In a few clicks and a restart, your FireFox will show a Star and a + icon in the Browser bar.

When a site is interesting, you click on the Star icon to save the Link with a comment, in your private or in your public activity.

When a feed is present on a selected page, the grey + button changes colour and becomes green. By clicking on it and choosing which feed you prefer, the chosen Feed will be added to your Netvibes page that is open in another FireFox window.
That way you can go back to the selected page.

On the contrary, if you click in the orange RSS icon that is shown to the right of the address bar, that will also add your Feed in your Netvibes page but it will open and create a new Netvibes page that will replace the "original page" that will not be open anymore. And you have now 2 different Netvibes pages open :(

Just for that, the Add2Netvibes extension is worthwhile installing !

To be able to use them, it is better to have already opened your Netvibes before.

NetEx Rating: 5*/5

A good and simple extension, only for FireFox, that works better with Ginger (but everybody will be upgraded to it).

The only problem I see, is not related to the extension but to the fact that the Activities of my netvibes page will no doubt increase with it but without a proper backup and a proper search for them.

If I have to look through my activities hour by hour because I do not recall the precise title I am looking for that will be a huge problem for me.

This search and backup of Activities should to be solved as soon as possible... perhaps with the personal Drive ?

HOW TO INSTALL :

Firefox extension

1 - Install the extension

Install Add2Netvibes v0.8.0 (works from Firefox 1.5 to Firefox 3)

If you see this message at the top of the page, click "Edit Options", "Allow", "Close", and click the install link again.

2 - Restart Mozilla Firefox

Once the extension is validated and installed in Firefox, you must restart the browser in order to finish the installation, and use the extension. After the restart, you will see a new button in your toolbar. Ginger users will also see an additional button to star any page!

It will be added in Link Widget in my REAL ESSENTIAL WIDGETS (and extensions) in my Universe.
