I want to tag, search and store my Share/Star It activities in Netvibes

It is a few monthes that the Ginger release of Netvibes is out and one of the features that I prefer is the Share/Star of My Activities.

I use it to bookmark pages, ideas, blogs, urls that I want to keep for a later use and/or reading. I use it a lot: at least 4-5 times a day.

I like it because I can also choose to publish it with a comment to all "my friends" or just to keep it for me (private).
I like it also because with FireFox I can use the Star button in my browser or the bookmarklets if the add-on is not installed and also the Star it button if placed by websites.
I like it because I can see and read what my friends shared and starred.

But, I have a big problem: as I have now a lot of them and all this Shared/Starred activities are just visible in my Activities by clicking on Activities in the upper menu.

They are presented in a the "most recent first" order and there is a search button.
The search is based on all Activities (mines + friends) and on words. Then the results are presented just with this little black window.

The My Comunity widget is ok but presents only the last 25 activities... and there is no search

I want more !

With my Share/Star it Activities I would like to be able to:

• separate Shared Url from other activities (as shared widget)
• separate my activities from others
  
• have the possibility to store the share urls with folders or tags or...
• be able to rate (1 to 5) the activity
  
• to move and rename and delete some of the urls shared
• search by date and tag
• to save , backup and export/import

I hope I am not the only one in this situation and to not send me to http://del.icio.us/ ;)

Lot of users still complain for not being able to access their Netvibes page

2 weeks after the huge Spring Update of Netvibes that has upgraded all users to the Ginger "social" release, a lot of users still complain for not being able to access their Netvibes page.

Just check my capture of the Netvibes' Summize of all Twitter's messages containing "netvibes" and you will see that they are numerous and coming from all over the world :(

Saturday, Paul Adams of Blog.Wired.com was also complaining...

Netvibes' WebNote has a bug: no print option anymore ?

The WebNote widget that allows you to take notes in your Netvibes page has a bug:
I can not print it anymore :(

I can click on the icon, but nothing happens...

Worst, with my FireFox2 I can still see the little Print this Module option in the menu


but with IE6 (down here) the Print option does not show anymore !


(Note to all interested: I have already emptied my cache ;)

I really liked the Print option because that way I could take with me the data I needed.

Is this another service that has lost something since the General Ginger upgrade ? Hope not .

What If Netvibes was used as an Artist' Media expression ?

Netvibes has also prepared a "Tour" of the Ginger release that explains step by step what to do and how to do it. A very good tool if you are a new user !

I can only agree ;)

Only down side: the presentation Tour is not adapted to LapTops with normal screen sizes :( and at the moment is only in English.

All new Netvibes users are now offered only the Ginger Update version at registration

While migration to Ginger update continues for all registred users (still with some problems), all new Netvibes users are now offered the Ginger Update at registration.


So, now I will be able to invite my "real friends" and they will be on Ginger in just a click ;)

Tariq Krim Netvibes' CEO announces improvements and offers apologies

"First and foremost, please accept our apologies for the downtime following netvibes' major architecture upgrade."

With these words, finaly, Tariq Krim, Ceo and founder of Netvibes of Netvibes, announces the end of the "Spring Up-grade" (not for all) and, more important, the changes that are coming.

Here is the list:

1) Every Netvibes page will be moved on Ginger (first to migrate, the most frequently used). That is cool as I will be able to invite "real friends" that are not techie ;)

2) No obligation to create a public netvibes (or universe): you can activate it anytime later.

3) Wider Localization: the new CDN has improved dramatically both in speed and acceleration worldwide (USA, Europe, China, Africa, South America) with more than 140 countries. But content is not already following

4) A new Corporate Web site for Netvibes is announced.

5) a lot of other new services and widgets will be presented soon.


Well, better late than never !

PS: I have lost all my Friends and Activities ... but I am sure they will come back :)

Netvibes is back with some changes

Here are my first impressions on the new Netvibes after the "Spring update":

1. Netvibes seems to charge faster but not extra fast ;) that is also because I have too many tabs and feeds.
   
2. The Drive icon in the upper menu has been taken away :( Is that meaning that the 2 free Giga Drive will not be offered anymore ?
3. In Add Content a new Start Wizard option is offered for the new users. By clicking it you are asked for your Localisation ant your main interest. I have tryed it yesterday and I was not really impressed as when I was looking for "design" I was offered only all the searches on "design" but not a single Feed... At the moment, nothing equals human elaborated content. You can try it even if you have already Ginger, as it will just add more Tabs to your page.
   

Some Bugs:

1. The native Feed Reader does not allow the "read all" in one click on the number of unreaded items as before .
   
2. The "My community" widget and the Update Profile are not working but probably because Netvibes will wait for all servers being upgraded. (?)
   
3. some of My Followers are marked with the green icon even if have not added them as Friends so there is no use for the green icon !

As always some users complained that the site was off for more time than scheduled and that there was no way to have a backup server even with a limited access. That should be improved.

But, I would like to thank publicly the All Netvibes team for their work day and night !

Next Wednesday 23rd of April at 4am UTC Netvibes will be off for 4 hours for Maintenance

The announced interruption of on-line service of Netvibes on Wednesday 23rd of April at 4am UTC
(check your local time) should last 4 hours (maybe 3) confirms a Netvibes team member.

Some Netvibes Ginger users want to downgrade to Coriander

TheNetvibes Blog comments shows that some Netvibes users are not happy with the Ginger release. Many find it too slow.

If you think the same,

1. try to empty your cache with this "magic" url: httt://www.netvibes.com/?reset_cache=1
   
2. send an email to Netvibes support team (check for feeback in the bottom menu of your page)
   

But, if you really prefer to go back and downgrade to previuos version Coriander, still available from Netvibes, here is how to do it:

1) get a new Netvibes account with a different email

2) do not register to go to Ginger

3) import your Feeds from the Ginger version with the OPML file (that is a catalogue of RSS and ATOM feeds you use).

To get your own OPLM file with Ginger :

1. go to Add Content
   
2. Add a feed
   
3. look for the small text OPML and select export

Why Netvibes is not directly upgrading new users to Ginger ?

I had to prepare a Netvibes page for my wife. She is not a techie and does not like all the preparatory staff: register, sign in, confirm ... so I do that for her.

But what a surprise, new users with Netvibes are still stuck with a revamped Coriander release version: a nicer layout, some functionalities like the share widget but no Friends, no Activities.

That means that at the moment, Netvibes puts its best version at more than 8 clicks away from the "not yet user "(check image: 6 steps just to go to Ginger) !!??
If the 6 steps were acceptable for users upgrading from Coriander release, it is not for new users

That is not good for a service that is looking to the Big Audience in a very competitive market.

Hope for them, that they will change that soon or they will lose momentum.

Netvibes' Ginger upgrade will give "serious" numbers on active users

As the public Ginger release of personalized homepage Netvibes is going smoothly (thanks guys ;) ), the upgrade by invitation only will give a "serious" number of active users of the service.

In the previuos versions you could register with a fake email as no check was made.

Now, not only you need a previuos inscription to Netvibes but a dobble check by email is needed to open your public page (Universe).

This procedure will reduce the number of users but will define the active ones.

Tomorrow: Super Tuesday for Netvibes as all users will be upgraded to Ginger

Tariq Krim, Netvibes' Ceo, has just announced that tomorrow, Tuesday 5th will be the day for the general upgrade to Ginger release.

A few weeks later than first planned. But let's hope there will not be any interruption in the service.

So what will be your reaction?

New Invite Friends option for Netvibes Ginger

There is a new option in the Contacts section of your Netvibes Ginger: it's the Invite Friends.

With this option you could send an email to friend to invite to join. But you can not write or modify the message.

At time of writing, the function does not seem to work... I let ypu know

NetEx Tip: get the MY WALL widget to let others write you on your Netvibes Universe

With the new Widget called MY WALL you can let others (friends or at least Netvibes users) to write a Message (1000 signs) on your Message Board.

It was conceived for your Netvibes Universe (public) page but you can send a copy to your private page and check from there your Wall. You can also write yourself from there.

Some friends , (as Fiuz ;) ) have copied My own Wall to their Netvibes page and by doing so are able to write from there on My Wall ;)

A nice and long waited (since Ginger testing) widget.

You can of course edit: title, number of messages, dedicated image, short comment.

What is missing ? Perhaps the possibility to include a little image ...

New Print option in the WebNote of Netvibes' Ginger release

With the new Ginger, there are small changes coming one by one ...

The last I spotted is the option "PRINT THIS MODULE" in the WEB NOTE WIDGET.
This module allows you to take your own notes directly in your Netvibes.

You get it from: ADD CONTENT/ESSENTIAL WIDGETS/Webnote.

The print starts alone but be carefull as if when you edited your Webnote module you had chosen size:small it will be printed really, really small (must be size 3-4).
Even the Big Size is just a 7-8 !

I was waiting this fonction since the begging and I would like to have it to print my all Netvibes page, or at least a Tab at the time...

Minor but interesting Changes to Netvibes' Ginger outlook

While the migration continues from omd Coriander release to the new Ginger, Netvibes has just made some minor changes except for the SPONSORED WIDGETS SEARCH RESULTS that I discussed yesterday.

1. New Add Content with sponsored widgets search results by category
2. In Add Content: if you search for Widget, there is a new Feed: KEEP TRACK OF THIS SEARCH. looks interesting ...
3. in Activities: I do not see the nice monthly calendar that was on the right side. It was useful to search for previuos activities (even if the day by day search was quite boring ;))
4. There is a search activities (that I have not seen before, but who knows perhaps was already there. It is helpful to find an old message or subject but it searches only your own activities private or public. If you want to know what a friend of you did you have to click on his avatar.
