Hi,
I was looking for a Netvibes logo and I did not found one !
There is a white plus on a green square favicon.ico, there is a strange sun on brown ground for the ecosystem, a Netvibes script but no real Logo!

What is the Business Model of Netvibes ?
,Hi,
after an introduction in a previous post, here what the persons behind Netvibes have declared on the subject.
Gigaom blog reported the following:
"Krim (Tariq KRIM, the founder and CEO of Netvibes) did tell us that the company is making some money from referrals and affiliate deals. In the near future there will be premium module deals. I suspect you would see more companies to follow in the footsteps of travel search engine, Mobissimo, which announced a Netvibes module today."
and also that:
"Tariq (KRIM) told Liz, while she was working for Red Herring, that Netvibes was going to try to get distribution deals with big media companies to have branded personalized homepages. That sounds like a promising business, but skepticism prevails. "
On the IHT in August 2006, we have this piece of news:
"Krim admitted that the site's revenue model was not clear, but said it could include payments from Web sites whose feeds go through Netvibes pages or charging a premium for prominent placement of a site's feed.
"I am not worried about revenue right now, I am concerned about the user experience," Krim said. "Once users are happy, I am sure the revenue model will make itself clear."
Netvibes' latest investors, of course, expressed confidence.
"With Netvibes becoming a browser within a browser for millions, it suddenly becomes a very attractive business model and easy to monetize," said Danny Rimer, the London-based general partner for Index Ventures, which co-led the recent round of investment. "We don't invest in companies unless they have a standalone business."

All day active users of Nertvibes: 500.000 !
Hi,
in my previous post I referred to the 5.000.000 "users" claimed by Netvibes.
There are many voices even in the competion to ask for much clearer definition of "user".
In the same post of Mashable: in comment N°2; Christoph Janz from competitor Pageflakes.com
was asking: "What’s the definition of a “user” in that context? A registered user? Someone who came to the site once? An active user who spends at least one hour on the site per week? A user who visits the site daily? Obviously, this makes a HUGE difference (easily by a factor of 100 or more). "
I would assume that in Netvibers case "a user" is "just" a registred user: someone having typed in "email address" and having chosen a password. The email is not necessary a working one as no authorization code is sent to it...
So, Netvibes in little more than a year time has succeded in having 5.000.000 users...
How many are using it every day ?
Only their servers could tell us or Tariq KRIM himself.
In Gigaom of last September we found that :
- "KRIM says his company now has five million active users and growing fast".
- " half the users are from the U.S., and are amongst Netvibes’ most demanding (in terms of using features and bandwidth) users"
But in an interview with the IHT in August 2006, Krim is reported declaring: " more than five million users have now signed up to use it" and also that: "10 percent of users (of) the site remains active all day long"
FROM THAT WE HAVE:
Official Netvibes Signed-Up Users: 5.000.000
All Day Active Netvibers: 500.000

What’s the business model for a start page like NETVIBES?
Hi,
I was wondering about the future of Netvibes (and other start pages).
What is their business model ? How they will earn money ?
Why asking ? Well, when the first money will run out (15 milions US$ for Netvibes) how can a one company-one service survive ? And if it does not, where I am going to move all my pages, reeders, feeds, tabs that day by day I have added to it ?
So here is a first round of ideas...
Specialists and observers think that for the kind of services offered by Netvibes and competitors there are few possibilities:
Pete Cashmore from Mashable thinks of : " subscriptions, partnerships and licensing".
So here is my list:
1) subscription:
you pay to use your page... humm not very tempting if competition is large and most of internet is still free.
A competitor, Goowy, has declared in July 2006 in their Forum: "We will always have a free goowy offering, however we will start to offer premium services and a small business hosted / enterprise version to build revenue for the company."
2) partnership:
in this case, the start page will charge transaction fees to a selection of "partners" business.
You could imagine a business, say Ebay, paying a fee for transaction "born" in a start page.
On the other way, the page is just importing a service not creating a traffic or an audience.
3) licensing:
this time, the concept is sold to small business or "Large organizations" to let them implement an "official dynamic starting page". I can imagine a Financial services House with lots of branches presenting by the intranet to all staff an unique starting page with all "official data updated", "official email and rss" and yet a small possibility for the user to adapt it at its own taste and screen.
That solution would be a "low profile" as the page brand should dissapear replaced by the "official" one.
4) advertising:
I agree with Pete : "Whether ajax start pages can support an ad-based model remains to be seen, but Microsoft and Google could probably pull it off" and more Google than MS...
I think, that for a very good service for a start page, a text line advertsing or a small ad screen would be acceptable by the majority of users.
In that case, data mining will be foundamental in offering to advertisers buyers profiles even more precise than the ones offered by Google (if it does not offer the same level of service)
5) selling out to Big Player:
Well a probable future for the bests.
As a result, the financing of the service is no more based on its self but on the possible synergies. That could mean: Advertising or more "controlled service" with less choices available.
Let's say that Google gets Netvibes, then the email module will show only Gmail, the map module will show only Google Map and so on... Of course you could add your own API but how many could do it alone ?
6) a mix free + suscription:
If the start page can go also on Mobile (and I am sure it will) then it will be able to charge for the subscription or data sending as the Mobile industry is already doing with success.
I agree with Russel Beatty : "(Mobile) Companies every day have no qualms about charging 25 cents to send 160 characters of data from one person to another, or have no problems charging $3.00 for a 10kb .gif image or a bad .midi version of a popular song, or even up to $10.00 for a small Java clone of Tetris - a 20 year old game. Unlike the web world, the mobile world is accustomed to charging for every thing that has the slightest bit of value".
The Web side of the start page will stay free and returns will come with the Mobile side of it.
My guess for Netvibes:
Option 5) selling out before end 2007 or option 6) after
Here what Tariq KRIM declared in their blog: "also, i'd just like to reiterate that netvibes will remain free of charge."
here a list of good discussions on the subject:

Netvibes Stats with Alexa
Hi,
You see here a Graph from Alexa to compare the Daily reach in Million for Netvibes, Pageflakes, Webwag, Protopage and to compare with a more sucessful web site, del.icio.us, just click here or on the graph.
Today, Netvibes is the BIG WINNER with more 2.500.000 pages while all the competitors do not reach the 400.000 ...
If you check the 1 year view, http://www.alexa.com
you can see that Netvibes a year ago was playing inn the same category but that since then it is 5 to 6 bigger.
Here is athor set of data you can see on Alexa
Traffic rank:
Today | 1 wk. Avg. | 3 mos. Avg. | 3 mos. Change |
---|---|---|---|
| | | |
Reach per million users:
Today | 1 wk. Avg. | 3 mos. Avg. | 3 mos. Change |
---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 2 | |
Page Views per user:
Today | 1 wk. Avg. | 3 mos. Avg. | 3 mos. Change |
---|---|---|---|
| | | |
Well Alexa data are not Nielsen data but a good guess.
Alexa is in fact a website tracking service, based on statistics sent by an Internet Explorer browser toolbar installed on a sampling of Internet users.
You can even install an Alexa Module on your Netvibes

New Link: Google Trends on Netvibes
Hi,
I just added a new link on the right "Other Netvibes Links".
It is about Google Trends. It is a new service that compares number of Searches for selected item. I choose Netvibes, and its competitors: PageFlakes, Webwag and Protopage.
Search data are just a "good" indication of the interest for a subject. And Netvibes scores the highest:
